TA Development

The Center for the Advancement of Teaching’s Teaching Assistant Development program aims to promote and facilitate the professional development that prepares graduate students for the skills needed in their role as teaching assistants (TAs) and their future as faculty.

The program offers TAs with various professional development opportunities:

  • Orientation for incoming TAs
  • Workshops on effective teaching practices
  • Teaching observations
  • Teaching consultations
  • Mid-semester feedback sessions

Certificate in University Teaching & Learning

FIU’s two-tiered certificate program is intended to equip TAs with the foundational skills for successful college teaching. The program assists TAs in launching their future careers whether within or outside of the academic setting, instills a strong focus on student learning, and aims to improve the quality of undergraduate education at FIU.
