The department of Academic and Student Affairs supports the university experiences by engaging students outside of the classroom through 23 departments.
The Division of Academic and Career Success (ACS) leads student success initiatives set by the Provost and Academic Affairs. The division centralizes the efforts of several units dedicated to helping our students succeed.
Discipline–Based Education Research (DBER) is a scholarly approach to teaching and learning from within the specific discipline. Problems that DBER looks to address may include: using scientific methods to assess the effectiveness of teaching and to document the dynamics of learning, using the findings to inform teaching and drive course reform. DBER research was instrumental in the development of the Learning Assistant program, the Noyce Scholarship program, and new teacher preparation programs.
The part-time dual enrollment program is the enrollment of an eligible secondary student or home education student in a postsecondary course creditable toward high school completion and a career certificate or an associate or baccalaureate degree.
Educational Technology Services (ETS) is part of the Division of Information Technology. They provide access and support for instructional technologies available at the university.
- FIU Online offers many virtual undergraduate and graduate programs for students to obtain a variety of degrees from FIU. FIU Online offers a vast collection of support services for both faculty and students to provide superior student learning, with the convenience and flexibility of digital education.
The Miami Teaching, Learning, and Technology Collective (or MTLTC) is an ongoing cross-institutional partnership between faculty developers at Florida International University, Miami Dade College, and the University of Miami. The collaborative efforts of the MTLTC have led to the creation of new faculty book groups and to the launch of a new SoTL research project.
The STEM Transformation Institute was launched in response to the national call for 100,000 new STEM teachers and an additional 1,000,000 STEM professionals over the next 10 years. They are building on the unique skills and perspectives our diverse student population bring to the way they learn and ultimately to the workforce.
