Project THINC

Project THINC, Teaching Humanities in the New Context, is a three-year FIU initiative funded by the Mellon Foundation that will design and facilitate programming around curricular development and scholarship for Humanities faculty. Emerging from successful faculty-led initiatives, and guided by insights from the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), this project will help demonstrate the essential role of the Humanities in our rapidly evolving world.

Project THINC has various phases. These include:

  • Convening an interdisciplinary Community of Inquiry and Practice to deliberate questions associated with what it means to teach the Humanities in South Florida in the early 21st century. This group produced a Statement of Curricular & Pedagogical Principles for Humanities Courses at FIU.
  • Facilitating a Course Redesign Program to support innovative curriculum design.
  • Assembling a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Faculty Learning Community.
  • Expanding FIU’s Writing Assistants program.
  • Expanding the Digital Humanities Tutoring Program.
